SIMULCAST !!

OK, this isn’t a really simulcast…

In other words, you can’t listen to the call on this blog.

BUT… I want to make this as interactive as possible. So you can leave your comments and questions here.

I probably won’t be able to read them during the call… but I will have a friend monitoring the comments - and he can shoot me an instant message if there is anything I need to cover on the call.

So leave your comments by clicking the “comments” button right below this entry!

While there has been a crazy number of callers, voicetext seems to be doing a great job of continuing to get new people into this call.

If you can’t get in yet, please keep trying :-)

    Thanks

I’m launching to my ezine list of 28,000 subscribers a series of inspirational, spirit-filled coaching products. Any suggestions at using Social Proof in live ways besides text in emails and webpages?

  8. Mike said:

Hey everyone, just so you know I’ve been on the phone with voicetext telling them your concerns.

They are doing everything they can to constantly add phone lines–they are adding one or two every minute or so–so make sure to keep dialing in.

We’ve also asked them to can the beeps–about 10 minutes ago :-) Well at least they are continuing to allow people on.

Also, thanks a lot Frank! Paris Hylton LOL :-p Later player!

  15. Coach Don said:

Hello to Yanik! Great to hear your voice and your sense of humor!

  16. Mike said:

Beeps should be gone for good, and they’ve also really cleaned up the sound a lot–thanks again to voicetext–

David–we did ask voicetext to record this call–and I called them and they verified that we ARE recording.

(that said, I personally wouldn’t put the content of this call is someone ELSES hands! this is great stuff!–see my comments on Jim Edwards in a moment)

By the way, voicetext only promised us 500 lines and we’re now WELL over 500–and still growing.

You can also use this alternate phone number that they’ve just added to accomodate new callers: 512-225-3053. There should be another 500 lines there.

Some more comments on the call–Jim Edwards did a great job on making the distinction between the case study testimonial and regular ones–I’ve found the same in my business.

Also, thanks Jim for puting the spotlight on ‘predatory marketers’ using powerful tools like Social Proof to basically steal from their clients–and thanks for calling them out.

I think we’ve all felt that way.

    Thanks again Jim!

Hi Jeff, This is great. I am writing notes as fast as possible. Is it possible for an MP3 file by email after? Hey, it’s super hearing some of these guys that I’ve never heard of, and getting their web addresses, and having more resources to learn from.
    Thanks!

    Hi Jeff,

Great concept for a conf call…Social proof with social proof.

Take care and it was good to hear from you.

  19. Marc said:

Is there a concern in introducing a blog for a product launch, where you don’t control the shipping and customer service of the product, that you may get some negative comments. Put another way, you always want to maintain control over your marketing rollout for a new product that has never been in the marketplace, ie. like a new invention that is a hard good. The point here is that I’m not talking about ebooks or other info product. Thanks.

  20. Glenn said:

Hi Guys, I have been listening to the call and it sounds very similar to what I call the :lemming effect”

I am from the physical product sales area and am breaking into Internet Marketing. Mike Filsaime is my mentor.

I come from where I may do a car show or home show. I always went to the show the year before I was going to set up at the show. Just to see the traffic flow.

I always wanted a space to sell on the right side of the isle or row according to how the traffic flowed.

I found that 9 out of 10 people are right handed and they will look to the right. Therefore people set up on the right side of the isle will outsello people on the left 90 % of the time.

I’m not sure this is Social Proof but it is part of human nature.

So is Social Proof an observation of human traits or are people made to get use to a way of doing business?

  21. Tery said:

Don’t you think that the scarcity thing is overdone? I’ve gotten to the point that when there’s a “countdown” I don’t purchase because I don’t believe that they’re being honest about it.

Also, I’m tired of affiliates sending me dozens of emails bribing me to go through their link. I’m just waiting for someone to say “just be an affiliate and let this product stand on its own two feet.”

    Tery

  22. Jennifer Herold said:

    Jim,

This is absolutely incredible. I’m learning so much. Thanks to all of you for putting such a great teleconference together.

    Excellent job!

    Jennifer Herold

  23. Tee said:

Re the urgency of buy because product will sell out… I get so disgusted when you can download a product and the marketer tells you that “the supply is limited!”

It’s really limited in time but not in quantity. So purchasers should be aware.

  24. Alfred said:

Can you recommend a Production Company to create and manufacture that new Ebook or CD style product for launch?
My product is a How To Manual so Mortgage Holders will save over 10 Years of mortgage payments if they use the new system I create.

  25. Mike said:

    Marc,

That’s a great question (26) –and as Jim Edwards pointed out, as marketers we have a lot of responsibility.

    It’s part of the job.

One–make sure to use vendors who you trust–and not just because you ‘like them.’ make sure you see the proof:-)

Two–stay on top of the process–your clients will tell you if there’s a problem–and so will your vendors–IF YOU ASK THEM :-)

  26. Coach Don said:

How best to use SP in actual live conversations such as teleseminars, etc?

  27. Ann DeVere said:

    Hi Jeff,
I lost the phone line–what a letdown!! Anyways, would you please let me know when you will have the recording online available–I know your email said 48-72hours–so I will be waiting patiently–(really impatiently) so that I can hear all the great tips and stories. Also, thank you so much for creating this opportunity for me–being just a “baby” in this process I am looking forward to becoming a teenager quickly and finally the adult– providing for my family of five children!!
    Thanks again,
    Debi

  29. Shari Thomas said:

I can’t believe the timing on this call. You guys are giving me virual check-list for a product launch already in pre-launch.

Awesome information, especially the continual reminder that we need to use this trigger responsibly.

  30. Alfred said:

Hi Mike: Is it Ok to use a Blog as my Sales Letter? Why not check out my Blog and advise if that is ok to plug into your system to launch my product? Of course I will have to social proof it: www.mortgagemoneyletter.blogspot.com

  31. Alex Dowlatshahi said:

    Jim,

I’d like to know, if any of the speakers had a chance, today, to build a website for any niche market, and they had to start from scratch, what niche market would they go after and why?

    Thanks,

  32. Chesa said:

But when does a Social Proof trigger become a saturated concept that causes people to withdraw instead of follow?

  33. JudyO said:

I do enjoy these calls. . .just want to put out there a couple of thoughts about the whole “follow the leader” thing. Whereas it’s true that as mere mortals and humans, one of our primary needs is to belong, I find it disturbing that we are really socialized to NOT THINK. We are encouraged to just follow along and *not* question anything around us. There are times when this strategy is useful, but on a day-to-day basis, I think it’s really important to ask, “why?”.

Also, thanks for reminding us that the powerful tool should be used for good and not for evil. . .

    Peace,

    JudyO

Jeff, how to you get people EXCITED to read your Blog?

  38. Mike said:

    Alfred (31):

I’ve personally had success with digitalcdr.com so long as you’re ordering 1000+ cds or dvds–otherwise you’re better off looking locally.

Ann (34) and Shari (37) Congrats on your launches. Tell us how they go:-)

Alfred (38) Yes you can use a blog as a sales letter–in fact that’s a great idea (mike rubs hands together diabolically:-P)

Regarding Jason Potash–The thing I love about talking to JP is that he doesn’t BS!

He plays it 100% straight up and listens intensely in conversation–two real assets when it comes to online marketing.

(though I must admit I have seen JP and every one of my friends on this call cornered at seminars listening to people who were really seemingly overly imposing on them–but JP is always gracious and always listens)

JP brings out the best in everyone–for instance, on this call Jeff got really fired up and brought up a key distinction about congruence–just when ‘mr congruence,’ JP is on.

Also, JP, thanks for taking us through the PROOF proess of social proof.

Goodness, I’m getting behind and yanik’s 1/2 done:-)

  39. Alfred said:

How do you scan a cheque into a blog. I need to get that done rigt now too. But I am stuck with the lack of tech skills. I can scan to an email. But how do I get it to the Blog?

  40. Chuck said:

Great topic and great speakers. I’m using some of it right now, successfully, but this takes it to a different level and I can’t wait to implement some of this stuff.

  41. Colin Goehring said:

Can you give examples of testing product or services with “Social Proof” in a niche, geographic, demographic target? Offline targeting to online market.

  46. Tery said:

How much does the “likeability factor” count in Social Proof? For instance, every speaker on the call is very “people friendly”. You’ve heard that someone can sell ice to eskimos — well all these guys can. They not only have good products but they’re all likeable and nice.

Also — I just realized that the QVC’s really use social proof.

  47. Coach Don said:

    thanks Chris!

  50. EILEEN G WADE said:

Jeff, I miss the first 15 mintues of this call. So I hope you will send me a link of the recording of the whole call. You also said in your e-mail that I may not know who you are! You are the guy who make a lot of money working from your kitchen table in your underwear!

  51. Rick said:

Thank you, Yanik. He is why I heard about it!

  52. Sebastian said:

Surely ‘one’ aspect of obtaining ‘Social Proof’ is having a good affiliate site!? But no-one (including Guru’s) ever mention ‘which’ is the best/easiest affiliate program to use. Would YOU guys PLEASE help us in this area. Thank you. Seb

  53. Zabadu said:

Well, that was slick. The pitch that was not a pitch. Using intrigue and mystery to sneak a pitch in. While it was not a blatant pitch it was designed to peak interest and begin to get the antennae tuned for when the pitch does arrive, which it will to everyone that signed up for this teleconference.

  54. Alex Dowlatshahi said:

I can’t help but notice that this field is overwhelmingly male. I’m wondering if you have any thoughts on why there is no female voice in the direct marketing field. Yes, I’m female and I market my services through seminars and on line.

  57. EILEEN G WADE said:

Part 2 All of this group of people on this call. I have learn alot from all of you, so Thank You all for that. One last thing, I was one of the lucky one’s to be at Yanik’s Underground in D.C. Yes Dan Kennedy was there and both Yanik and Mr. Kennedy E-Mail me a copy of his check. The Proof was there, I do feel that Yanik may have not cash his check. Thanks again all of you are great in the way you help people learn the best ways to market online.

  58. Mike said:

Terry (54) likability is not important–it’s CRITICAL– a key distinction when it comes to social proof: in short, people tend to classify others as “like me” or “not like me” –if you tell people that someone who is “not like me” your marketing can backfire.

Remember, the tools you’re learning on this call are powerful and as such need to be used with care.

Kristin (56) Influence by robert cialdini

John Reese with the dramatic entrance! We all await at what the master will have to say.

Yanik, thanks for your insight on shortcuts.

Yanik and I got together so Jess and I could meet Zak and see Missy–and Yanik was talking about opportunity cost managment–

Yanik’s got just 2 hours/day now to focus on his clients–and still meet the challenge of raising the bar with every new product launch–so he’s really thought about the subject of opportunity cost.

Also, thanks for really putting us all there when it came to the Underground tapes launch–there’s nothing more valuable than the perspective from the command center.

  59. Darrin said:

How much did John pay for his home theater? What equipment did he buy?

  60. John Trout said:

    Great call guys… Awesome!
I am getting tons of ideas for my Affiliate Program Report. Thanks to all the speakers

  61. Tracy said:

Do you feel the best person to implement social proof is a dispassionate observer or someone who is truly involved in their product? I’m hearing both…

  62. Derek T. Utterbach said:

    Hello Jeff,

I want to say thank you for the phone call. Unfortunately I was cut off the call about an hour into it. Is there a way you could send me a link too? I miss what Yanik had to say??

    Thanks-

  63. Darrin said:

Question for John Reese. . .

For those following the Underchiever Method, how do you build momentum and incorporate social proof for a product that you have not created yet, BUT you know you’re going to based on the Adwords testing, etc. . .

  64. Kammy B said:

John hit it on the head about how powerful Someone Else’s influence can be on a potential customer, especially from someone they know who is giving them a referral (like Yanik said). You cannot BUY any other marketing as powerful as that.
I don’t even try to sell myself or my services- I just let other people who know what I do make those sales for me. The added benefit to me is a customer that ends up being soo much easier to work with than someone needs CONVINCING that I’m honest and know what I’m doing. I almost never take clients that haven’t been referred and I’d have it no other way.

  65. Mike said:

Pretty rare that any call have great content after 30 minutes have gone by, much less 2+ hours! And John Reese is just getting started!

    Here are some more comments

Tracy (69): as John Reese just revealed social proof needs to come from someone who started as an outsider and who now considers themself somewhat of an insider.

Kammy (72), Derek (70), John (68), EILEEN G WADE (68), Chuck (48) and all the rest of you that have enjoyed the call, thanks–I’m good friends with all of these guys and I can tell you that they ALL want to give you the world.

Darrin (71) with underachievers you want to mail anticipation letters to the list you built during your ‘flycatcher’ page–this can get them reved up and ready to provide awesome and specific testimonials.

  66. John Trout said:

Any ideas on how to use a podcast to develope some of these great marketing techniques?

  67. Sam said:

Re: John Reese’s use of a blog as a forum during pre-launch - how do you handle people posting negative comments about you or your product? Not necessarily abusive or inappropriate, but simply negative?

  68. Anthony said:

Very interesting topic. I had no idea that the majority of people have not yet evolved past the ‘tribal’ stage of their being. That is not to pass judgement upon them, it is mearly the stage that they are at. It is something that I have never been able to understand or comprehend before.

    Thank you for the enlightenment.

  69. David Rogers said:

Great call, content rich, like it alot. Greetings from Ireland

  70. John Trout said:

This is not a judgement, just an observation. Would Anthony have bothered to comment on this thread if there were only 6 posts instead of 76?

  71. Jim said:

The power of this call its its single point focus. All the ideas are integrated into the focus of Social Proof. That created a clarity, intensity, and is a proof itself. And — it was clear at the outself Jeff athat you would have somje product launch or offer in the future but that doesn’t matter at all. This call legitimizes respect for whatever it is you will be bringing out.

  79. Richard (Dick) Daiker said:

    Hi Jeff, great call.

I have a product that I have been making since 1991. I have sold 1000’s of these items and sell them as fast as I can make them. I have wanted to set up a web-site for the longest time but unfortunately, I am the exact opposite of a computer geek. In fact, I ordered the Video Professor CD’s and got hung up on the very 1st CD. (Pretty lame, I know).

I have been quoted prices of over $10,000 to have a site built and this is simply out of the question.

When I had someone build a site for me that was only in the $1000 to $2000 range they required 1/2 the money up front, several months went by with no site built, when I pressed the issue and attempted to get my money back, they sent me an e-mail (with a VIRUS) that shut down my computer and said “I’ll send you the money when I get it.” As you might guess, I still have no web-site and have never received my money back either.

I know this e-mail is a bit long and I apologize.

This product of mine, . . . it retails for about $30.00 and is extremely popular. After all these years I believe I have finally arranged to have them mass produced for me (to my specifications) for only about $5.00 each.

I’ve got a great starting data-base as I have an actual picture of every single check anyone has ever written me to purchase one of these items.

I can also obtain testimonials coming out of my ying/yang and my customers absolutely love these things.

I also have manufactures reps that have sold these and they love them as well.

I believe a website for these items is a way out of my job and a route for a better life for my son and I. I am a single Dad.

I would love to send you and all of the experts on this call some digital photos of the product over the internet and see what they think and hopefully they can steer me one direction or another.

    Any input would be greatful,

    Best regards,

    Richard Daiker

I wasn’t able to get on the call, like many others, but I’m looking forward to the recording. If anyone wanted proof of Social Proofing, then look no further.

In offline retail we used to call it the “herding instinct”. Noticed someone referred to ‘tribal’ too. Call it whatever you like, it works.

Thanks in advance, it is great to see the “good guys” getting together. Thanks to all of you.

always a little dubious about “free” calls. I figure they are going to try to sell me something. very nice to just have super solid information for more that two hours.

I’ve doing a lot of reading and was quite intrigued when I read about social proof in “Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion” By Robert B, Cialdini

Chapters: Reciprocation, Commitment and Consistency, Social Proof, Liking, Authority, Scarcity.

    I read it non-stop for 2 days(320 pages),
    awesome book!

I wasn’t able to stay for the entire call but was interesting to listen to some of you guys.

I am currently working on product that I will be launching in a month time (http://www.startuponlinebusiness.com) and am already using the social proof.

I am looking for affiliate partners to help me with the launch. This product will be different from others. So please visit my site and contact me to be an affiliate.

Jeff, keep up the good work. Your “social proof” skill made me make that phone call today! Good job.

    Cheers,

    Hey folks… Jeff here.

Wow… was that an incredible call or what? Right now I am in this weird state - on one hand I am completely drained from focusing on those amazing guests for two and a half hours. On the other hand I am COMPLETELY energized by all the incredible energy on the call.

I am just starting to go through all the amazing posts here… but there is one thing I want to do, and that is give:

A HUGE THANK YOU TO MIKE LONG!!

Mike did an amazing job of keeping tabs on the blog comments, calling voicetext to get more lines and turn off the beeps, AND instant messaging me whenever there was something I needed to know. Thanks Mike!!

BTW, I am already working on getting the recording ready for everyone…

    best regards,
    Jeff

I cancelled plans so I could listen to every minute of this call live - best decision I’ve made in months!

One of the best calls I’ve ever been on - and I’ve been on a lot. You guys packed it solid with practical and immediately usable information - and you presented it with fun and humor. You made me want to be part of your group!

My thanks to everyone for your time and energy - it is much appreciated!

    Congratulations Jeff for doing it.

Now for the unfortunate few who could not participate in the call live, is there any way we can get hold of the recording?

    Cheers,

The call last night was great I was to tired to stay up and post my thoughts last night but a big thanks to all who played a part in this. A little success story before I go. I am in an early stage pre launch business and never thought of social proofing and i’ve been marketing for 8 years now but I woke up this morning and put to use the information and ideas I got from last nights phone call and by 1200 noon I had signed up 235 new people and I received a phone call from my sponsor in the business and he asked what got into me and I told him about the great call he missed last night. Great job guys.

    Jeff and Mike,

We’re live! Thanks to you guys and all the totally awesome guests for a perfect checklist. I’ve been a student of Yanik, Jim, and Jason for years. This was like having a private coaching session with the best of the best.

Anyway’s here it is, we can spill the beans on it now… Brought to you by three zany entrepreneurs, Jane Mark, Phil Basten and me (am I lucky or what!)…

    PixelsAnyone.com

Within hours of the site going live, Alexa has it at 114,169 and moving on up.

More importantly, sales are brisk. You can see them on the site. We’re posting them as they come in… pretty cool beans.

Oh, and the site is ALL ABOUT social proof. You’ll want to be seen there, too. It’s the best deal around.

Ok, back to the trenches now, got blogging, etc to do.

Thanks Jeff. You know, you’ve established “pure credibility” by organizing this free seminar with so many marketing gurus and the rest of us in this social proof community here.

Thanks for the download email and link. The recordings are terrific!

    Jeff and Mastermind Crew,

The content of those 2 “tapes”(whatever) was excellent.
I note that some of the blogs above want to agonize over the difference between “word of mouth” “lemming effect” etc etc blah blah. I hope they don’t miss the essential wisdom that those concepts are all related -just different sausages off the same dog - and they are all being used in marketing and salesmanship with powerful effect. I’m a psychologist and I went through Psyc 1A back in the 60s. The experiment in which an individual claims that a line on paper is longer than it obviously is just to comply with the “opinion” of a couple of peers, who are really stooges was old hat even then. The principle involved is very useful. My only constructive suggestion is: be ruthless in pruning the waffle out of the 2nd tape. Thanks for letting me enjoy those sessions. Vic

Hey Jeff, thanks for the call, really great stuff.

Just a little fact you might want to know, Social Proof actually has its own branch of philosophy dedicated to it. It’s a type of propaganda, called “Bandwagon”, and is defined as the “need to be like everyone else”. I knew about it before the call, but I had never realized how powerful it was!

I think combining Bandwagon (Social Proof) with other types of propaganda techniques can make for a REALLY effective sales technique, but hopefully you guys will do another call on that in the future :-)

Great call guys, sorry I wasn’t able to make it to the actual call, but the mp3 recording was great!

This is it. This is what I needed. This is the key to all great things. :) Seriously, I am so excited that I can’t read anymore (the transcript). :) I feel like spreading the news, dancing in the streets and creating a revolution. :) My brain hasn’t been this stimulated in quite a while. Excellent information, great marketers, amazing tactics. I now know what I was doing wrong.
All this… and I’m only on page 19th of the transcript (couldn’t make it on the call, I live in Ireland). I better get back to my reading… I feel like talking to somebody but there is nobody around. :D
Next Sunday you will find me in the Speaker’s Square (Temple Bar – Dublin/Ireland) teaching the masses and getting communities together. ;)

    Hello Jeff,

I have an incling of what your Product Launch Course is all about.
I have a drop dead fantastic product and yet, even in shows, people are scared to look at it as there has never been anything like it before.
This is because they don’t know it, don’t know what their friends will think of them if they like it and they can’t even imagine the benefit they would experience with it. Interestingly, they are scared to find out!
The few brave souls who stopped to look just said “I’ll have one of everything you’ve got”.
Well I’ll be buying your course a.s.a.p. whether I attend your call or not.
Thank you for this great work that you do,

    Alexandra Rodda

PS If you want to do a JV with me and prove that your method can sell even an entirely new kind of product, then I should be delighted. AR

If noone believes in this, I do and that’s good enough for me.
Thank yous are in order, so thank you.
